Georges Guynemer (1894-1917) was a French fighter pilot and air ace credited with over 50 victories over the course of his service.

He began as a mechanic before receiving pilot training in April 1915.

He died on the Western Front in September 1917.

Though not France’s top flying ace, he became his country’s most popular and revered ace of the First World War.
